3 tips for business travelers to always follow

Traveling is the best therapy and form of leisure for most people. It allows moments to create memories, meet family and friends or it can be the beginning of new stories. However, for many people travel is synonymous with work — something very common for some professions, such as sales representatives, teachers and those who work with consultancies, for example.

Some rules and tips, how to collect points to buy tickets, apply to everyone, but those who need to travel for work have to pay even more attention to some specific points.

We separate the 3 main ones, which need to be always in the memory and in the suitcase of “travelling professionals”, both in national and international trips.

1 – What to pack

It seems obvious, but if the trip is for work, it is necessary to have clothes suitable for the activity, which often requires the most formal pieces. Therefore, a reminder that is always valid: organize your suitcase with neutral options that go well in any situation, such as jeans and tailoring options, and that can be added to coats (if it gets cold) or other clothes.

Golden tip: check if the place where you are staying has an iron or a steamer.

“But will there be time for a walk”? This doubt is very common and, as we cannot predict everything that can happen, even though the agenda has been revised several times, find a little space for an “extra”, light and versatile outfit.

2 – Documentation: check it out a few times

When we are at home or in the place of the main routine, forgetting one of the documents is not always a problem. After all, if there is any unforeseen event or need, it is “just” going to the source, that is, home or work. When you are in another city, this is not possible. And as clear as it may seem, the truth is that problems related to lack of documentation and other requirements, such as visas and vaccines, are always very common.

On this point, “less is never more”, especially when traveling for professional reasons: scan documents and have them on your cell phone, but also take at least one original document and certified copies. Leave the original at the hotel and so many problems, such as loss or even theft, will have less impact on the trip.

Some reminders that are always valid: to travel in South America, in countries like Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Peru, you only need to present your identity document (RG) and a passport is not required. However, the National Driver's License (CNH), valid for trips within the national territory, never replaces the RG on international trips, even in the "neighborhood". This is a very common mistake and it gets in the way of countless people on a daily basis. Imagine if travel is work how many opportunities can be lost!

Check the vaccination requirements of the countries you are traveling to. Not only Covid-19 is required. Some destinations ask for Yellow Fever vaccines, for example. So: check it out first and take the internationally valid card.

3 – Have medical insurance

When traveling internationally, many destinations require insurance. However, when making domestic trips, this point is often left out. It is worth remembering that several health plans are only for a specific location, which can be a municipality or state. However, for professionals who need to travel frequently for work, it is essential to have national coverage.

Check if your insurance plan has, at least, provision for care for emergencies and urgencies in all locations. Without adequate insurance, small incidents that could be easily fixed can become huge ones.

Extra tips

  • Always leave in advance for appointments, after all, no matter how much you researched the routes, you must not know the city and its traffic characteristics so well.
  • Choose a hotel with easy access to your main appointments, exactly for the above reason and to make your life easier.
  • Knowledge is always an excellent item for your luggage: so, before you go, do some research on the place, its main characteristics, cultures and lifestyles.
